Today I will share my personal experience of making the IoT egg Incubator Project to make a chicken from the egg. It is a low-cost internet of things posit that any farmer can make it. The maximum cost of this project will be only $10. With your household equipment, you can make this. if you get success from this positive, you can go for IoT industrial production. It is to mention that the internet is not mandatory to make an automatic incubator. Moreover, the all-time electricity supply is not essential for this project. Any beginner can make this for his experiment. Without further ado, let us discuss how to make the IoT-based egg incubator project.
Who Can Do the IoT Egg Incubator Project?
This project will be useful for all types of people to be more specific following persons will be more facilitated from this internet of things project.
- Any poultry farmers for large-scale production.
- Ordinary farmer for small-scale production.
- Any industrial automation, manufacturing, and production system.
- Any beginner who is trying to develop an IoT project.
- The student has a general knowledge of electricity AC/DC.
- You, the readers who are reading this article.
What Do You Need?
My today’s project is base on your household equipment. Other than some electric items, all the tools are available on the reach of your hand. To find the list of equipment.
1. IoT Router
To make the Egg incubator project, it is not mandatory to manage any IoT router, but it will help monitor the project live. It is not costly, and longevity is very high. You can choose any best IoT router for this purpose.
2. Any Software like Raspberry Pi or Arduino
To connect with the IoT dashboard with the circuit, you need IoT Software like Raspberry Pi or Arduino. It will help you to monitor the project.
3. Broadband / Mobile Internet Connection
To oversee any live project from anywhere globally, you need a broadband or mobile internet connection. It is to mention that the IoT router, software, and internet connection is not mandatory to produce the chicken.
4. An Incubator Circuit
The fundamental or vital tool to make the incubator project is the circuit. The price of the Incubator Circuit is $1.5. It is available to any electric shop. It is a very small chip where you can program the maximum and minimum value of the temperature. The circuit will pass the electricity within the range. At the time of purchasing, you have to set the limit of temperature. If the heat value is above the limit, the power supply will off. Again if the heat value is below the limit, it will start to supply power.
5. Heat Proof Cork Sheet or any Plastic box
To keep the eggs, you need a box. Please manage any heatproof box. So that the inner heat will not pass to the outside and vice versa. Heat Proof Cork Sheet will provide better results than any other metal box. I bought the box for $3.
6. 2 X mini Fan
The mini fan is not a mandatory item, but it will help adjust the incubator box’s temperature. I have used the computer power supply fan, which is available to any computer power supply or electronic shop. You have to fix the fan to run 24/7 inside the box with glue.
7. 2 X Electric Bulb
An electric bulb is required to produce heat. You can put a 1X100 ward bulb or 2 X 60 ward bulb on both sides. The bulb’s capacity does not matter because if the heat is out of range, it will automatically off.
8. Binding tape
Binding tape is used to ensure your security. You can rearrange to electric cable with the Binding tape. For decoration purposes, you can use tape.
9. Glue Gun
Glue Gun used for fixing the bulb, fan, and circuit. You can use it as per your requirement.
10. Electric Cable
Only 10 feet of the electric cable is required to make the IoT egg incubator project. It will need to connect the fan, bulb, and circuit
11. Electric Switch, Holder, etc
It is used to make the project smooth.
12. Power Supply 12v Transformer Adaptor
The required power supply is 12v and 3 A. If you use more than 3A, the incubator circuit will bust or spoil. You can use a handmade power supply or adaptor.
13. Rice husk/Wood husk
Like the hen, you have to produce the same heat. Rice husk or wood husk can be used for this purpose. You can use paper or cloth for the purpose.
14. Two mugs of water
You have to keep two mugs of water on both sides of the incubator. To ensure the aqueous vapor, you have to keep it.
15. A signature Pen
You need a signature pen to write today’s date on the egg. Each after 12 hours, you have to reverse the egg. We know the hen is also doing the same by herself. If you write the date, it will be easier for you to count the days.
How To Make The IoT Egg Incubator Project
Step 1: Make your Power Supply 12v Transformer Adaptor workable and connect it with an electricity connection. You have to confirm it below 12V and a maximum of 3A.
Step 2: Connect the incubator with Power Supply Transformer Adaptor and set the Incubator circuit’s temperature. The ideal temperature of a hen when she is giving heat to the eggs is 37. So you have to set your temperature limit within 37.5 and 36.6. The heat sensor will find the heat of the temperature box.
Now you connect your 2 X 60 ward bulb with the temperature circuit. If the heat is above 37.5, the electric bulb will automatically switch off, and if the temperature is below 36.5, it will automatically switch on the bulbs.
Step 3: Clean the Cork Sheet Properly and fix your electric bulbs on both the cork sheet box’s inner side with your glue gun. If it is a wood-made box, then fix your bulbs by screw.
Step 4: Connect your mini fans from the power supply box directly and fix them at a convenient location inside of your incubator box. The purpose of the fans is to distribute the warm air equally to all the eggs. The incubator sensor will be inside the incubator box, but the display and circuit will be outside of the box.
Step 5: Keep some rice husk/wood husk inside the incubator box and put two mugs of water on both the box’s inner side.
Step 6: Mark your eggs, for example, today’s date, on each egg at one side. Each after 12 hours, you have to reverse the eggs.
Steps 7: Wait 21 days for hen eggs, 28 days for duck eggs, or your required days for other bird eggs. Have fun with your new chickens!
How to Connect IoT Egg Incubator
Up to the previous part is the Automatic egg incubator project. If you want to make an IoT incubator protect, you have to ahead further. You can follow the steps below to make it happened on the internet of things.
Task 1: Connect your IoT Router with the internet.
Task 2: Login and Customize your CavyIoT’s Remote Control Panel. Create an IoT project and sync the control panel.
Task 3: Add the code to your created IoT Egg incubator project, you will get the code and setting procedure here. The code is written in C++.
How The IoT Egg Incubator Will Work?
Manage some eggs (based on the size of your box). Place it in the center middle of the incubator. Switch on the light. Look at the display. You will find the temperature of the incubator display is increasing. When it reaches 37.5 celsius, then the light (bulb) will automatically off, and the heat will reduce. When the temperature of the incubator is 36.5 or below, then the bulb will automatically switch on. It is a never-stop procedure. So after 21 days, the chicken will come out.
You can set an IoT-based Project of the temperature limit. If the temperature is out of 36.5-37.6 celsius, you will get an email/SMS notification. You will understand then the bulb/light is not working, and the heat is not producing. You have to manage alternative heat-producing things (normal oil led bulb, Hurricane lamp) to keep always within the temperature limit.
Final Thought
If you want to contribute to your country, you have to do some innovative action like the IoT egg incubator project. If you are unable to set the IoT dashboard, there is no problem. You can produce the chicken in a normal incubator system. Keeping always electricity is not a requirement. If there is load shedding for 2-3 hours, then it will not hamper your production.
